Coronavirus Phishing Scams
Beware of COVID-19 emails that appear to come from reputable sources, such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO).
The body of these emails often contain recent news and updates related to the Coronavirus. These emails ask you to click on links for more detailed information – but actually link to malicious websites.
Scammers are also setting up fake charity sites to collect “donations”. These sites are distributed via social media, text messages or email.
What You Should Do
- Be wary of unsolicited information related to the Coronavirus and related charities.
- Visit the CDC for up-to-date Coronavirus information: cdc.gov
- Visit the FTC for more information on vetting charities: consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0074-giving-charity
